According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 30 individuals die in motor vehicle accidents involving a driver under the influence every day in the United States. This roughly equates to one death every 48 minutes. These staggering statistics demonstrate just how big of an issue DUI drivers really is.
In 2013, alcohol-impaired drivers caused over 10,000 deaths. They also accounted for nearly 1 in 3 traffic-related deaths, while drugs other than alcohol were involved in roughly 18% of motor vehicle driver deaths.
This high incidence is unsurprising, when you consider that alcohol-impaired drivers got behind the wheel roughly 112 million times in 2010. In 2012, 1.3 million drivers were arrested for DUI of alcohol or narcotics. With so many negligent drivers out there, DUI accidents are unfortunately very common.
